The Bowbelle was a British sand dredger infamous for the 1989 Marchioness collision on the Thames. Sold and renamed Bom Rei, she worked out of Madeira until she broke in two and sank off the north-west coast near Porto Moniz in March 1996. The wreck lies in deep, exposed Atlantic water and is dived by boat from Porto Moniz when conditions allow, making it one of Madeira's landmark advanced dives.

Capo Caccia is a towering limestone promontory 20 km west of Alghero, in the Capo Caccia–Isola Piana Marine Protected Area. The cliffs plunge straight into the sea and continue underwater as walls, overhangs and cave systems; the Nereo Cave, one of the largest submerged caves in the Mediterranean, opens on this headland.
